CSDU: Carpio Chair, Velarde President, Manglapus V-Chair, Molo Secretary; inducted by Gen Almonte.

Welcome to the official website of the Centrist Social Democratic Union (CSDU) of the Philippines – a community for citizens who believe that democracy works best when it is principled, pragmatic, and focused on people, not personalities. This channel is a space for thoughtful conversation, serious ideas, and hopeful action for a better Philippines.
The CSDU stands on four core pillars: democracy, good governance, social justice, and national development. We believe in the rule of law, strong institutions, and accountable leadership. We support an economy that encourages enterprise and innovation while ensuring that no Filipino is left behind. We stand for policies that protect rights, expand opportunities, and uphold human dignity, especially for the poor, the marginalized, and the next generation.
Our leadership reflects this commitment to principle-based public service. The CSDU is chaired by former Senior Associate Justice Antonio Tirol Carpio, a widely respected voice for constitutionalism, rule of law, and national sovereignty. Serving as President is Mr. Mel Velasco Velarde, an entrepreneur and educator who believes that technology, innovation, and inclusive growth must go hand in hand. Providing an international perspective as Vice Chairman for International Relations is Mr. Francis Xavier L. Manglapus, who brings deep experience in diplomacy, advocacy, and movement-building. Elected as Corporate Secretary is Atty. Alfredo B. Molo III, Senior Partner and Founder of MOSVELDTT law firm, continuing a long tradition of legal excellence and reform-oriented leadership. This team was formally inducted by General Jose Almonte (Retired), underscoring CSDU’s roots in reform, institution-building, and a renewed social contract for the Filipino people.
This channel is where those principles come to life in conversation, learning, and collaboration. Here, you will find long-form discussions, short explainers, and real stories that connect policy to everyday life. We talk about how institutions really work, why reforms succeed or fail, and what it takes to rebuild trust in government. We aim to make complex issues understandable without oversimplifying them and to offer reasoned perspectives rather than slogans or soundbites.
What can you expect from our videos?
• Explainer series on key issues – from constitutional questions and the economy to education, health, climate resilience, and digital transformation. We break down big topics into clear, accessible language that students, professionals, and everyday citizens can use in their own conversations and decisions.
• Conversations with leaders and reformers – featuring voices from law, business, academe, civil society, local governments, and communities. These are honest dialogues that look for solutions, not drama.
• Youth and leadership content – focused on developing the next generation of centrist, social democratic leaders. Expect discussions on values, history, ethical leadership, and practical skills for public service and civic engagement.
• International perspectives – drawing on global experiences in social democracy, centrist governance, and institution-building. We explore what the Philippines can learn from other countries, and what we can contribute in return.
• Town halls, forums, and on-the-ground engagements – highlights, recaps, and full event uploads so that even if you cannot be with us in person, you can still listen, reflect, and participate online.
The CSDU believes that lasting change does not begin with a single election; it begins with citizens who are better informed, better organized, and deeply committed to democratic values. This channel is designed to support that journey. Whether you are a student learning about politics for the first time, a professional trying to understand policy debates, a public servant looking for fresh ideas, or an overseas Filipino seeking credible, values-based perspectives on events back home, this space is for you.
For us, being “centrist” does not mean staying in the middle for its own sake; it means insisting on balance, fairness, and responsibility. We reject the false choice between growth and equity, rights and order, freedom and responsibility. A centrist social democratic approach seeks to harness the energy of markets while ensuring strong public institutions, effective regulation, and social protection. It values both individual initiative and solidarity. It understands that real progress requires listening to diverse views, building broad coalitions, and finding common ground rooted in shared democratic values.
Beyond the screen, we hope that what you learn here will help you engage more confidently in your own circles—your family, school, workplace, organization, or community. Use these videos to start conversations, organize study groups, or deepen your understanding of issues that matter to you. If you are interested in going further, watch out for announcements about events, learning sessions, and opportunities to connect with others who share the CSDU’s commitment to principled governance and national renewal. This channel is only one part of a larger effort to nurture leaders, strengthen institutions, and inspire citizens across the Philippines and around the world.
We are not here to add to the noise. We are here to raise the quality of public conversation. That means being open to questions, respectful in disagreements, and firm about facts and principles. In a time of polarization and disinformation, the CSDU chooses dialogue over division, evidence over emotion, and long-term institution-building over short-term popularity.
