The Launching of CSDU
At three o’clock in the afternoon on 26 October 2018 at the Glass Pavilion of Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City, the Centrist Social Democratic UNION (CSDU) in partnership with the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC) launched the Raul S. Manglapus Center for Freedom and Democracy (RSM-CFD). It was an event supported by Former President Fidel V. Ramos and attended by distinguished leaders, ambassadors, journalists, academics and eminent professionals. It started with welcome and opening remarks from AIJC President Mr. Ramon R. Tuazon and CSDU President Mr. Francis X. Manglapus. The keynote was delivered by CSDU and AIJC Chairman, and NOW President and CEO Mr Mel Velasco Velarde who was graciously introduced by AIJC President Emeritus Florangel Rosario-Braid, PhD. Mr. Velarde’s message served as the inaugural lecture-presentation of an envisioned lecture series as one of the key activities of CSDU and RSM-CFD for love of country – a continuing conversation and executive education of young, emerging and seasoned leaders of Philippine Politics especially those running for and holding public office. The open forum that followed was a lively Q&A with Mr. Velarde, eminent professors, ambassadors and media luminaries. A ceremonial toast followed a short video documentary on the ideals and legacies of the former Senator and Foreign Affairs Secretary Raul S. Manglapus, led by Chairman Velarde, Francis Manglapus and some members of the family of the statesman and freedom fighter.
